The spring 2020 collection explores Oscar de la Renta’s Latin roots through a modern lens.
Inspiration began in the the Caribbean – the melting pot of cultures juxtaposed with the arresting splendor of natural landscapes. The solar color palette, used to saturate relaxed tailoring and effervescent gowns, was drawn from luminous sunsets.
Flora and fauna native to the islands inspired the collection’s grounded hues, intricate prints and the use of natural fabrics – hand-loomed linen, raffia, raw silk – driving a shift in perspective on what constitutes luxury today.
The runway reflects the vibrant atmosphere, color-washed architecture and lively markets of tropical Old Towns like Santo Domingo, Cartagena, San Juan or Havana.
Silhouettes are unabashedly feminine with artful draping, voluminous ruffles or jewel-like embroideries. Ultimately this is a collection that honors the brand’s illustrious heritage by bringing a jolt of exuberance to everyday life.
