Lou Dalton’s January 2020 presentation on the final day of LFWM
LFWM: For Autumn Winter 2020 Lou Dalton looks towards her past in order to forge a new future.
Taking cues from her working class background, her passion for the outdoors and textiles from her Father’s Teddy Boy wardrobe this collection exudes the practical, stylish and contemporary menswear aesthetic that Lou Dalton is synonymous with.
At the heart of this collection are three key collaborations with Gloverall, John Smedley and New Era.
Long term collaborators: Gloverall and Smedley continue to use their rich history in outerwear and knitwear to realise Lou’s vision while New Era mark the beginning of a mutually beneficial partnership that has produced hats and caps to perfectly complement Lou’s designs.
Lou’s knitwear for John Smedley elevates classic menswear garments. Long sleeved striped polo shirts sit alongside colour blocked rugby shirts all executed in fine gauge merino knits. Polo neck jumpers in chocolate brown, bordeaux and deep navy stripes exude a quiet sophistication.
For Gloverall Lou has created new silhouettes in raglan-sleeved overcoats and patch pocket workwear jackets that each flaunt Gloverall’s duffle coat fastenings. The outerwear utilises a reversible wool fabric, removable and reversible hoods. These fabrics are also used on bi colour and patchworked New Era baseball caps.
Heavy knits come in crew neck and zip through styles each carefully crafted from 100% lambswool. Ombré knits in mohair blends exemplify the two-tone motif that runs through the collection. Other knitwear styles feature a delicate and sophisticated take on animal print realised through a tonal jacquard knit technique. Fairisle, a key style for Lou Dalton is this season reversible, offering both a traditional and a deconstructed take on this menswear staple.
Other key pieces from the collection include sportswear inspired zip through jackets that incorporate the collection’s key colour stories, rust, bordeaux, navy and black each incorporating the animal print tonal jacquard. Matching straight leg and cuffed trousers combine to create a luxe take on the tracksuit, in Lou Dalton’s inimitable style.
