The House is delighted to bring its support to the renovation of the Porta Magna Gate in the Venice Arsenale, as part of its partnership with the Venetian Heritage Foundation and the Italian Navy.
Symbolizing pioneering architecture – one of the very first oeuvres of the Renaissance in the lagoon – this monumental gateway, built in the mid-15th century, is surmounted by a sculpture of the Lion of Saint Mark, emblem of the Republic of Venice. The entrance is punctuated by eight statues representing Roman mythological gods and goddesses bound by majestic ironwork, sublimated by bronze ornamentation.
Reflecting the grandeur of the City of the Doges, the Arsenale, conceived in the 12th century, was one of the most important shipyards in the world, expressing the economic, political and military power of the Serenissima.
Guided by a passion for creation in all its forms, and in line with its initiatives to preserve and promote the Venetian cultural patrimony, the House of Dior is committed to assisting Venetian Heritage in the restoration of this monument that is inseparable from the history of Venice. In April 2024, the House had already collaborated with the foundation as a partner in the Naumachia charity ball – orchestrated at the heart of the Arsenale Vecchio –, aimed at raising funds to finance work on the Porta Magna Gate, but also on the Ca’ d’Oro museum.
A striking, long-term act of solidarity, which more than ever highlights Dior’s eternal fascination with art and its powerful, unwavering ties with Italy.
