The arrival, in Paris, of the Games* – the sacred embodiment of competition – incited Maria Grazia Chiuri to pay a fitting tribute to all athletes whom, from antiquity to the present day, have overcome prejudice and obstacles to ensure a level playing field in sports contests.
Exploring the ties between performance and clothing, the Creative Director questions the very essence of the latter, its construction and its singular relationship to the body in movement.
Draping, an astonishing visual reference to classical statuary, is prevalent on the catwalk notably in silk dresses magnified by embroidery, transparent metallic tank tops edged in satin, and ensembles where the skirt reveals a pair of pants at each step.
The silhouettes reflect the power – both experimental and reflexive – of couture, its virtuosity in rethinking the allure, the elegance of a woman at once delicate and strong.
