Didit Hediprasetyo Designs Opening Ceremony Uniforms for Indonesian Olympians

Blending modern craftsmanship with the elegant simplicity of Indonesian traditional design philosophy, Didit Hediprasetyo unveils the official Opening Uniforms for Indonesian athletes at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris

Didit Hediprasetyo’s creations transcend traditional fashion, embodying a holistic approach that honors athletic performance and cultural pride. Each garment is a tribute to Indonesia’s vibrant heritage, resonating with the athlete’s roots and fostering a sense of unity and belonging.

Raden Saleh, the pioneering Romantic painter of Javanese descent, serves as the muse for this collection. His journey from central Java to European courts in the 19th century mirrors Indonesia’s ascent in the global arena. Saleh’s works, gracing the halls of the Rijksmuseum and the Louvre, embodied a blend of Javanese roots and European romanticism — a fusion that Didit channels masterfully.

I am deeply honored to design the official opening uniforms for our incredible athletes representing Indonesia at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris,” said Didit Hediprasetyo. “My goal was to create a design that embodies the pride, spirit, and resilience of our nation while ensuring that our athletes look and feel their best as they compete on the world stage.

Designed with the Olympian’s needs in mind, the uniforms provide maximum comfort and ease of movement, using high-quality, breathable fabrics that include washed-out Indonesian denim and lush velvets and silk jerseys in a striking palette of primary colors.

The men’s attire is biker-inspired with washed-out denim jackets that are rooted in the Beskap, a traditional Javanese men’s suit, and paired with crisp white trousers for an athletic look. The women’s uniform, featuring a tailored Kebaya Kutubaru top in rich primary red, complemented by white jumpsuit pants, merging sportiness with regal elegance.

Attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the design, from the intricate stitching to the placement of the Indonesian emblem accented by red and white leather stripes to the sophisticated Javanese men’s turban, a Blangkon with a contemporary twist of leather and denim — all contributing to the ensemble’s overall harmony.

As the world watches the Paris 2024 Olympic Games unfold, Indonesian athletes will proudly wear Didit Hediprasetyo’s uniforms during the Opening Ceremony, symbolizing their nation’s heritage and commitment to excellence.
